Cathy Sosnowsky

I started attending The Compassionate Friends of the North Shore (North Vancouver) a few months after my son Alex died (age 17) from a freak accident, in 1992.  Since then I have been treasurer, telephone contact, newsletter editor, facilitator, and chapter leader. TCF saved my sanity in her my early grief, and I am still benefiting by being there for the newly bereaved.

Writing poetry also saved me, and I have published a collection of grief poems, Holding On: Poems for Alex.  I also suffered the loss of my adopted children to the streets and to drugs.  I wrote about surviving these experiences in Snapshots: A Story of Love, Loss, and Life.

I have given workshops on “Writing as Healing” at many TCF gatherings: national, international and regional.  I am a retired college instructor of literature and writing, and value these workshops, which allow me to continue to teach, without marking!
